By 1987 the new dolls and clothing had become just far too tacky. It would be easy to blame it on the fashions of the times, but Mattel managed to produce much lovelier outfits throughout the 1970s and earlier 1980s, despite the often more outlandish fashions of those days. Personally I blame it on the shift throughout the years of toy manufacturers in general from providing children with a well-made product which would inspire, instruct and stimulate them, to simply and cheaply ‘Giving Them What They Want‘.
The European-release Ready To Wear/Pret-A-Porter outfits are about the best from 1987, #3307 especially. The Concert Tour Fashions outfit produced for the Derek and Ken Rocker dolls can be found in the section 1986-87 Derek & Ken Rockers.

ROTOPLAST VENEZUELA
Rotoplast in Venezuela produced many outfits for Ken in the late 1980s under license from Mattel. They are actually better-looking than the regular outfits, especially for 1987. I only have this one outfit, but more can be seen in the section 1985-87 Ken by Rotoplast Venezuela.
